Sudbourne Primary school had a African singing day to introduce the European Cup to the school.
St Marks Academy held a summer concert. There was singing from the school choir and Community project Adult choir and afternoon enjoyed by all.
The choir sang for parents and governors, demonstrating the many talents of the school.
It was a rather wet day as we approached the hospital in Mile End, East London. As we came into the ward, we were greeted by Christiana who then took us to a small room where the children from the ward, along with the staff, awaited the St Martins in the Field High School for Girls’ Choir.
The choir performed a little set for 45 minutes, acapella numbers ranging from ‘He’s alive’ to ‘Swing low, sweet chariot’.
St Martin’s were widely received the children; one being Leah – a child on the ward was so happy that she joined along with the singing with great joy and volume.
The admission reasons for the children in the ward varied from illnesses to accidents. It was such a great pleasure to see that St Martins brightened up the days of not only the children but also the staff and witness how touched they were by the voices and presence of the girls. One child was so happy that he started to break-dance on the floor.
The choir also picked from their numbers ‘this little light of mine’ where staff clapped their hands and stomped their feet, and joined in with the verses ‘all around the world’ ‘even in my home’ ‘even in this place’.
It was a truly fun-filled time where children and staff joined in and a wonderful time was had by all.
