Gospel Drums Workshops: The expression of Gospel music through rhythm. Pupils will learn the importance of time keeping through the drum kit, rudiments patterns, time signatures and playing in a traditional Gospel band scenario.

Introduction
- Jam session- for students to express themselves through trial and error improvisational sessions
- ‘Triplets and reverse Parra-diddles’ Pupils learn how to say what they play and express through various rudiments taught
- Pupils learn how to play rhythmical patterns set at an intermediate level, in a group ensemble while playing an individual part. Focus skills- Foot work; How to use the drum pedal.
- Grouping-placement for levels
B -
4 on the floor
- Using the drum kit for the first time, exploring the relation between hand and foot whilst playing the kit simultaneously
- Pupils learn how to play rhythmical patterns I.e ‘Shout’, and ‘Shuffle’
- Focus Skills- Co-ordination between left hand and right hand.
C -
Time Keeping
- Playing rhythmical grooves (a) to a click (b) in front of the click (c) Behind the Click
- Accenting-Playing drum patterns in even and odd time
- The exploration of rudiments in Odd time 5/4, 5/8 and 7/4, 7/8.
D -
Playing to tape
- Pupils will learn to play common time grooves to specific songs. Learning phrases lines, and intros (Preparation for the end of year concert).
- Pupils will play along with a live Band.
E -
Playing and ‘filling in’
- Exploring the use of rolls and playing around a click track.
- Using the vocabulary learnt in Introduction/intermediate and advance, pupils will apply rhythmical patterns (fills) while playing a song.
- Using the vocabulary learnt in Introduction/intermediate and advance, pupils will learn to ‘trade 4’s’ as part of a group ensemble
F -
Rehearsal/Performance
- Rehearse songs ready to perform in end of year concert.
- Inter Schools Drum Battle.
