Designed for the exceptional student that shows a natural gift in music. The course consists of composition/arrangement, performance, listening, singing and appraising.

 

 

This course is designed for the accelerated pupils from years 5 and 6.
‘Gifted and talented’ aims are to:

• Challenge the accelerated pupils into thinking in a Key stage 3 frame of mind.
• Create a conciseness in coherent composing.
• Creating from nothing!

Topics covered are:

• Step and leap melody- Understanding the shapes of melodies and how they are constructed.
• Scales- Cycle of fifths- Understanding the structure of scales.
• Sharps­- Scales from C Major-B Major.
• Flats- Scales from C major-Db Major.
• Chords: major and minor- Construction of Chords.
• Roman Numerals- Chords within a scale.
• Melody into chords- Creating a song.
