Learning songs through varing styles,Blues, Rock Jazz,  Contemporary Christian music (CCM), to traditional Gospel Greats. Analysis of chord progressions in songs, exercises and more.

 

 

Beginners | Intermediate | Advanced

Focus on:

A - Introduction

  • Jam session- for students to express themselves through trial and error improvisational sessions.
  • Pupils learn how to play rhythmical patterns set at an intermediate level, in a group ensemble while playing an individual part. Focus skills- (class split) Left hand/right hand work. Pupils selected to improvise over chosen chords.
  • Grouping-placement for levels.

B - 4 on the floor

  • Using the drum kit for the first time, exploring the relation between hand and foot whilst playing the kit simultaneously.
  • Pupils learn how to play rhythmical patterns I.e. ‘Shout’, and ‘Shuffle’.
  • Focus Skills- Co-ordination between left hand and right hand.

C - ‘Oh when the saints’

  • Pupils develop the ability to recognise the difference between pulse and rhythm and to perform with a sense of pulse.
  • Pupils develop spatial awareness between other musicians in the form of ‘call and response’.
  • Pupils learn to play in C Major and F Major.

Time Keeping

  • Playing rhythmical grooves to a click.
  • Accenting-Playing drum patterns in even and odd time.
  • The exploration of rudiments in Odd time 3/4.

D - SCALE-ECTRIK!

B - Chord study

  • Pupils learn how to build chords, the study of Triads, Sevenths.
  • Pupils learn how to play rhythmical patterns I.e. ‘Shout’, and ‘Shuffle’.
  • Focus Skills- Co-ordination between left hand and right hand.

C - ‘Oh when the saints’

  • Pupils develop the ability to recognise the difference between pulse and rhythm and to perform with a sense of pulse.
  • Pupils develop spatial awareness between other musicians in the form of ‘call and response’.
  • Pupils learn to play in C Major and F Major.

Time Keeping

  • Playing rhythmical grooves to a click.
  • Accenting-Playing drum patterns in even and odd time.
  • The exploration of rudiments in Odd time 3/4.

D - SCALE-ECTRIK!

  • Pupils learn to play scales and exercises in A and E Major.
  • Pupils learn to play melody of chosen songs.

Playing to tape

  • Pupils will learn to play common time grooves to specific songs. Learning phrases lines, and intros (Preparation for the end of year concert).
  • Pupils will play along with a live Band.

E - Playing intermediate improvisation

  • Using the vocabulary learnt in units A to C, Pupils will apply exercises (Scales) improvisation to a selection of songs.
  • Exploring Major and minor pentatonic scales.

Playing to tape

  • Pupils will learn to play common time grooves to specific songs.
  • Pupils will play along to a backing track.

F - Rehearsal/Performance

  • Rehearse songs ready to perform in end of year concert.
  • Preparation for Piano Graduation day-Advance pupils will prepare a piece to play with a professional band.
